Standards

Editorial Policy

The standards used to research, commission, edit, update and correct Ember & Rhythm’s work.

Effective and last reviewed: 24 August 2026

Independence and scope

Editorial decisions are made for accuracy, reader value and cultural context. Advertisers do not receive advance approval of editorial conclusions. We cover masks, drums, material craft, museum practice and named fire traditions; unrelated promotional products fall outside this scope.

Evidence and attribution

Core factual claims must link to collection records, official heritage documentation, institutional scholarship or credible specialist research. We preserve qualifiers such as “probably,” avoid turning visual resemblance into cultural attribution and distinguish catalogue fact from editorial inference.

People and expertise

We do not invent writers, experts, interviews, testimonials or endorsements. The launch release uses institutional desk bylines. A named contributor must be a real person who has agreed to the credit; a specialist consultation is disclosed only when it occurred.

Cultural care and provenance

We identify an object’s recorded people, place, date and material rather than use broad exoticising language. We acknowledge gaps, legacy museum terms and ownership or restitution questions where relevant. Open-access photography does not erase the cultural status of an object.

Images and advertising

Object photography is used under a stated public-domain or licensed source. Original artwork is labelled. Paid placement, sponsorship and affiliate relationships must be marked beside the content and may not imitate editorial judgement.

Updates and corrections

Features show publication and update dates. Material corrections are noted on the page; small style or accessibility fixes may be made without a note. Send evidence-backed corrections to emberandrhythm.editorial@gmail.com. We aim to acknowledge them within five working days.
